Prescription parameters written by ophthalmologists or optometrists may seem complex, but they follow a standardized medical convention:
OD (Oculus Dexter) indicates your Right Eye.
OS (Oculus Sinister) indicates your Left Eye.
OU (Oculus Uterque) means both eyes.
Indicates lens power measured in diopters. A minus (-) sign means nearsightedness (myopia), while a plus (+) sign means farsightedness (hyperopia).
CYL (Cylinder) corrects astigmatism (irregular cornea curvature). If you have a CYL number, you will also have an Axis angle (from 1° to 180°).
PD is the distance in millimeters between the centers of your two pupils. It ensures that the optical center of the lenses aligns precisely in front of your pupils for crystal-clear distortion-free focus.
Stand 8 inches away from a mirror. Place the '0' mark over your left pupil and read the millimeter mark directly over your right pupil (typically 58mm to 68mm for adults).
Most doctor prescriptions specify your PD directly. If you don't know it, standard adult average (63mm) is used or our optometrist can verify it with you.
